Apple sells 9 million iPhone 5s and 5c units

Apple prides itself on its opening weekend sales each year and there's always that word record somewhere to be found. This year Apple boasts 9 million sold iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c units in the first weekend.

Apple didn't provide specifics on which iPhone sold how many, but the two new iPhones combined for a significantly larger win over last year's 5 million iPhone 5 units opening weekend. Also iOS 7 is now running on more than 200 million devices, making it one of the fastest updates in history. The updated OS launched just two days before the new iPhones.

Apple is reporting low supply for the new iPhone 5s flagship, with many online orders expecting to be shipped in the coming weeks.

Be sure to check back with us soon for a detailed look at the iPhone 5s and 5c.

Apple iPhone 5s to cost more than its predecessor in Europe

Apple finally announced its next-generation iPhone along with the iPhone 5c at yesterday's event. Back at the event, the Cupertino guys announced the subsidized pricing of its newest smartphones in the United States, but didn't say anything about unlocked pricing for other regions.
Well, the pricing details of the iPhone 5s for the European market are no longer a mystery, as the prices have appeared in the official Apple stores around the old continent. The 16GB model of the iPhone 5s will be up for grabs for £549, while the 32GB variant costs you £629 and the 64GB version is priced at £709. Surprisingly, the iPhone 5s costs more than its predecessor, - upping each step by £20. That's the second year in a row that Apple has upped the entry fee for the iPhone game, after the iPhone 5 launch price was £30 higher than the iPhone 4S before it.

The pricing of the iPhone has been increased for the rest of the Europe as well. The iPhone 5s will now cost €699 for the 16GB variant, while the iPhone 5 was up for grabs at a price point of €679.
Of course, the newest iPhone will be available for a much cheaper price with a carrier contract, but the details for those are yet to be announced.
The iPhone 5s along with iPhone 5c will be available in UK, France and Germany from September 20 with the rest of Europe to follow until the end of the year.

Working iPhone 5C handled

CTech already published a specs sheet for the iPhone 5S, but it seems the site has also gotten hold of a 15 second video showing the cheaper iPhone 5C (recognized by its colored plastic sides) that shows the device being unlocked, a quick peek at the app launcher and then the browser.
Not that iOS 7 is in any way new – you can read our review here. It is possible that Apple will put some exclusive features that are available only on the new generation of the iPhone. Anyway, here's some footage of an operational iPhone 5C pple's event is scheduled for tomorrow and will certainly bring the iPhone 5S. There's a very good probability that the 5C will appear and only an outside chance that the cheaper smartphone will be China-exclusive (for carriers like China Telecom and China Mobile) and appear at Apple's September 11 event. We'll be covering tomorrow's event when we'll get the definitive truth from Apple itself.

Alleged iPhone 5S specs

There's a reference to video framerate being bumped to 120fps from 60fps though we're not sure what that's about (the iPhone 5 can't shoot 1080p @ 60fps). Other than that video recording and the front-facing camera are the same.
The rumored fingerprint sensor is mentioned and the battery life is marked as improved to 250 hours of standby, up from 225 hours. The battery capacity is the same, so this is presumably due to the new chipset. The chipset (quite as expected) has been bumped to Apple A7, but there are no details what that entails (quad-core? higher clockspeed?).
Of course, there's no way to confirm any of those specs but since all of them are evolutionary steps, we'd say they are probably close to the truth (or at least not widely inaccurate). You can join us tomorrow and find out the true specs of the next iPhone(s).
Thanks to Kshitiz for sending this in!

New iPhone expected on Sprint in mid-September

Here's something that got slipped under the door this morning, courtesy of a loyal reader of ours. We're being informed that the iPhone display sections at some Sprint retail stores are to be altered in the coming weeks. Changes include the installation of new counters, which must be in place by September 16.  How is this newsworthy? Well, Sprint outlets do not modify their iPhone displays unless there's a new phone coming, as our tipster notes. Perhaps the changes are being made in preparation of the new iPhones' arrival, which, if true, would mean that the iPhone 5S and/or iPhone 5C may be on Sprint's shelves on or around the aforementioned date.
We must note, however, that iPhones have always been launched in the US on a Friday, while September 16 is a Monday. That's why September 20 seems like a much more likely launch date for the new iPhone models.  All the leaks we've come across so far point at a mid-September launch for the iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C. The smartphones are expected to be announced on September 10 and then to go on sale soon after, if rumors are to be trusted. But as is the case with all leaks like these, nothing is certain until it comes straight from the horse's mouth.

More photos of gold iPhone 5S leak, box of 128GB version spotted

The rumors that Apple will break its black and white only color scheme for the iPhone 5S are heating up with more and more photos hitting the web. The 128GB option that analysts think will happen with the upcoming iPhone generation became more tangible too, thanks to an alleged photo of the iPhone 5S box.
The Gold (or Champagne) colored iPhone 5S chassis posed next to the Black and White versions. The plastic panels on the top and bottom of the back are missing, but they will probably have a slightly different color like on the other versions. The front is also not shown in the photos. The back of the Apple iPhone 5S box shows a 128GB label and lists some connectivity options – quad-band 3G with DC-HSPA, CDMA and LTE (bands 1/3/5/13/25). The iPhone 4 came with 32GB storage max, the 4S doubled that to 64GB and the iPhone 5 kept it at 64GB, so maybe it really is time for another step up.

Front panel and innards of the iPhone 5C leak

Hours after the purported camera module of the cheaper Apple iPhone 5C got snapped, now photos of the phone's display and framing have surfaced. Said parts of the rumored cheaper iPhone 5C have been leaked by a company called Chinese C Technology. It claims that there are minor differences between the iPhone 5 and the device they claim is the affordable iPhone 5C. The inside wiring is one of them, in addition to the all-plastic build.
We've already seen the plastic casing of the iPhone 5C on video as well as the different color variations that allegedly Apple is going to launch it in. Naturally, if you've been following the topic, you've also seen a lot more leaks regarding the low-cost Apple smartphone, as well as renders showing how it would look like based on the information available. Naturally, there is no official confirmation from Apple just yet. Even worse, Apple has repeatedly denied that it's working on a more affordable iPhone, so you'll have to judge for yourself whether the leaks and reports are to be believed.

iOS 7 beta 4 links surface, Gold Master to come in September?

If you're a developer (or have registered your iDevice as a developer device) then you could be getting iOS 7 beta 4 (build number 11a4435d) today as the links have surfaced on Apple's Dev site. The links have been since pulled but are expected to return soon. Also according to sources Apple could be releasing just two more betas before an eligible Gold Master version arrives to devs this September with Apple about to start testing a GM release internally.
It's likely the rumors are true as we expect a new iPhone device (or devices, perhaps?) to arrive in the second half of September, and that one will certainly sport a ready version of iOS 7.
