Sony Xperia ZL Android 4.2.2 Update Now Available
When the Sony Xperia ZL was launched this March it was running on Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean but Sony promised an update that would soon arrive. The company has made good on that promise today as the Android 4.2.2 update is now rolling out for the European LTE (C6503), HSPA+ (C6502), and North American (C6506) versions of the device.
The update brings in several new changes to the device which are listed below.
Latest version of Sony Media Apps with seamless integrated services
My Xperia application that helps you find your phone and secure everything you have on it. Read more at myxperia.sonymobile.com
New Customizable navigation bar with quick settings
New widget functionalities, both on lockscreen and homescreen
Support for bigger (64GB) SD card so that you can store even more on your Xperia
The update is available OTA and is somewhat special since this is the first device that will be getting the Android 4.2.2 via OTA. Other Android 4.2.2 devices in the market today already ship out running on the build.
If you’re still not getting any notification of an update and you can’t wait to try it out you can do a manual update. You will need to install the FTF firmware file using Flashtool which you can get here.

New mobile phones 2013 - what's coming up?
UPDATED Top mobile phones compared: what phone is best for you?
PAGE 14 OF 14New mobile phones 2013 - what's coming up?
Of course, there's always a chance you don't give two hoots about the phones we've listed here, and want to know what shining lights are set to glimmer into focus in 2013.
With MWC 2013 out of the way, we've got a pretty clear picture of how the mobile landscape is shaping up, and with many of you months away from your contract upgrade, here's a selection of new phones to whet your appetite:
LG Optimus L7 2
The LG Optimus L7 2 is a surprisingly capable budget smartphone which offers up plenty of features for not a lot of cash - although the naming of it will confuse potential buyers aplenty.
We were impressed with its 8MP camera, stylish design and smooth operation, although web surfing could do with a bit of a boost.
Out of the three new L-Series 2 handsets the LG Optimus L7 2 is our favourite and we reckon it will offer consumers pretty decent value for money when it lands later this year.
Hands on: LG Optimus L7 2 review
Samsung Galaxy Young
The Samsung Galaxy Young is a phone that you can imagine the younger teenager who wants a modern smartphone asking for at their birthday. It won't cost that much money to pick up without a contract, and with the ability to set data limits on the phone, parents will be happy that they won't be hit with whopping bills.
It's an uninspiring phone for the spec-hungry fan, but it copies the Samsung Galaxy S3 styling and for that reason alone we can see a few skirt hems being tugged as children give their parents the big eyes when looking for a new phone
Hands on: Samsung Galaxy Young review.
Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2
The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 is one of the better phones we saw at MWC 2013, simply because it was a different proposition to the rest of the identikit Samsung Galaxy family.
We didn't get to dunk it underwater, which is still a favourite test of all mobile phone reviewers, but we're pretty confident it can stand the heat. Also literally.
If you're in the market for a tough, attractive next-gen smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 could certainly be worth checking out.
Hands on: Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 review
ZTE Grand S
Taking a look at the specs the ZTE Grand S looks to be a blockbuster of a phone and one which could easily trump the big boys of the mobile market, with a full HD 5-inch display, 1.7GHz quad-core processor, 2GB of RAM, 13MP camera, 4Gconnectivity and Android Jelly Bean
The reality however is not so great, with a sluggish interface and disappointing screen quality seriously wounding the Grand S..
Perhaps ZTE will be able to iron out the kinks before the handset hit shelves, but we're not holding our breath. The Grand S will need a pretty special price tag if it's going to succeed.
Hands on: ZTE Grand S review
Huawei Ascend Mate
The line between smartphone and tablet continues to blur and the Huawei Ascend Mate does nothing to help the situation.
Huawei wants you to ditch your tablet in favour of the Ascend Mate, which in its eyes can double as both a slate and a phone.
We're not completely sold on that philosophy and tend to sway towards the theory that a 6.1-inch phone is pretty mad – verging on unnecessary.
Hands on: Huawei Ascend Mate review

Best affordable quad-core dual-SIM Tablets
The Sony Xperia Z Ultra just shocked us with its 6.44" display, but also with its high price of $679 (or 679 euro) off contract. You might wonder, isn’t it possible to get a phablet at an affordable price? Truth is there are countless manufacturers outside the mass market ones that provide decent alternatives at a third of the price.
Since the first Samsung Galaxy Note launched back in 2010, phablets, a name for phones that near tablets in size, have grown from a bold experiment into a mass market gadget. You can judge by how quickly virtually all Android phone manufacturers started making phones with screens larger than 5.3 inches, something that we consider the starting point for a device to be considered a phablet.
Below you'll find offers from Chinese manufacturers you may have not heard of, but if you are in the mood for experimenting, why not try them? Prices are extremely affordable and you can get a quad-core phablet for as low as $160 (but most cost around $200 and slightly more). What should interest you more is powerful hardware and in our selection right here we have the Star B6000 that features the new MT6589T chip, it's definitely the most powerful one of the bunch. We should warn you though - all of these devices do not support 4G LTE connectivity, nor T-Mobile’s AWS 1700MHz 3G bands. All of the devices below run on a quad-core MediaTek chip - a great performer for the price, so performance will be lag-free for the most part. With no further ado, here are our 5 picks for affordable quad-core dual-SIM phablets.

Refreshed Sony Xperia Z with Snapdragon 800 coming
The Sony Xperia Z with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 chipset exists and is actively been tested by the company, according to Eldar Murtazin, who claims he has seen and played with the device himself.Murtazin, who has a somewhat mixed success with his predictions and leaks as of recently, also reports that the prototype he has tested sports a similar display to the HTC One's Super LCD 3. However, he doesn't believe Sony will leave it in the final version of the device, provided it exists.Another Sony smartphone, the Xperia Z Ultra is all but confirmed to sport the same Snapdragon 800 CPU, which lends Murtazin's information some credibility. The company has given spec bumps for a handful of its devices in the past, namely the Xperia arc and Xperia S - with the fall-launched Xperia arc S and Xperia SL, respectively.

Galaxy mega 6.3
Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 review: Walking tall
GSMArena team, 16 June 2013.
Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 360-degree spin
The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 stands 167.6mm tall and 88mm wide. That's about 20% more surface area than the Note II (151.1 x 80.5mm), and you do get just over 30% more screen real estate. This means Samsung has managed to cover a bigger portion of the front of the device with the screen.
Also, the Mega 6.3 is thinner (8mm vs. 9.4mm) and not much heavier (199g vs. 183g) than the Note II.
Unboxing the Mega 6.3
The Galaxy Mega 6.3 came in a box just wide and tall enough to fit the large phablet inside. It was one of the eco-friendly boxes with soy ink printing. As for the contents, those were fairly standard - a compact charger, a microUSB cable to go with it and a one-piece headset (in-ear design).
Design and handling
The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 follows the Galaxy S4 design language to a tee, just like the Note 8.0. It is a sort of a facelift of the Galaxy S III design, less rounded with slimmer bezel and a characteristic LED flash positioning under the back camera.
Another thing Samsung changed between the S III and S4 was the pattern of the plastic. We like the new one better, but the glossy hyperglazed plastic is still quite impractical - easily smudged and with poor grip.
Other than that, the general styling spans devices with screens from 3.27" (Galaxy Young) to 8" (Galaxy Note 8.0) and frankly it's worn out and lacking in premium feel.
The screen on the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 is bigger than most phones (including the Galaxy S4). It's so big it barely fits on the device - the bezels are very thin, especially on the side.
The Galaxy Mega 6.3 screen offers just over 30% more real estate than the Note II and nearly 60% more than the 5" Galaxy S4. It makes very efficient use of the front surface, rivaled only by the S4 itself and the Sony Xperia ZL.
You can hold the phablet in one hand, though some will find it uncomfortable. The thin bezels offer no room to put your thumb and the slippery back doesn't help. Using the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 with one hand is only possible for a limited number of tasks.
Samsung has enabled a smaller keyboard in some places (the QWERTY keyboard, the dialer keyboard), which does improve usability a bit. However, the notification area is completely out of reach and the lower corners are tough too, both areas are very important to working with Android.
You can pocket the Mega 6.3 and since it's slim and fairly light it won't bulge in your pocket or feel like a brick.Gsmgalaxy.com
