Roadmap confirm android 4.3 update schedule for galaxy s3 ,s4, and note 2

VISIT GSMGALAXY.COM FOR LATEST SAMSUNG UPDATES

Leaked roadmap confirms Android 4.3 update schedule for Galaxy S3, S4, and Note II

android-4.3-easter-screen-feature
Here’s some more confirmation of Samsung’s plans for updating the Galaxy S4, S3, and the Note to Android 4.3 – French carrier SFR has released a roadmap with information about their devices’ upcoming updates, and it states that the Galaxy S4 will receive the update in October, followed by the Galaxy S3 and Note II sometime between November and December.
Samsung had initially said that updates for all three devices will start from October, but it isn’t surprising that the Galaxy S4 will be given first preference. As always, carriers in the U.S. will take additional time to roll out the updates, though if Samsung Canada is to be believed, all three devices should be on the latest version of Android (well, latest for now, by then Android 4.4 ‘KitKat’ will likely be out) before this eventful year ends, regardless of region and carrier.
update-plans-4.3
In terms of features, Android 4.3 will add numerous new software features from the Galaxy S4 to the Galaxy S3 and Note II, while enabling compatibility with the Galaxy Gear for all three (though the S4 is already partly compatible).

Samsung Galaxy Note3 and Galaxy Gear now available

Samsung's big IFA 2013 announcements – the Galaxy Note 3 phablet and the Galaxy Gear smartwatch – are already on sale and some early-bird customers in the Netherlands already have them in (or on) their hands.

In the Netherlands, an unlocked Samsung Galaxy Note 3 (the N9005 with Snapdragon 800, LTE and 2160p UHD video capture) will set you back €600 unlocked for either the Black and White version.

If you want it on contract, you can have it on Tele2 for €150 upfront and €38 a month or T-Mobile for €163 and €43 a month. Vodafone has it at €29 and €54 a month for 2 years. You can also have it on Telfort for free at €52 a month or Hollands Niuewe for €316 and €50 a month. These are all for 2-year contracts

The Samsung Galaxy Gear is €350.

In the UK, Expansys lists the white Note 3 as available at £620, the black one isn't there yet. EE has set the price of the white one at £30 up front and £51 a month. Clove will be getting its Galaxy Note 3 units tomorrow at £594 SIM-free (both black and white).

Clove also has the Galaxy Gear on pre-order (expecting stock "at the end of September", which is about now) and is yet to confirm which colors will be available. The price is £282.

Germans will be getting their Galaxy Note 3s in about a week from Amazon – the white one is €700, but the black one is listed at €760. Other stores have the black one at the proper €700 price.

The Galaxy Gear is priced at €300 at Amazon.de.
The French will have to pay €712 for their Galaxy Note 3s and €300 for the Galaxy Gear.
Negri Electronics ships internationally and has the Note 3 unlocked as well as the carrier-specific versions. The site also lists the N9000 – that's the Exynos 5 Octa version – which starts at $770. The Galaxy Gear is $389.

Over 30 million Samsung Galaxy Note II units sold

The Samsung Galaxy Note phablets are some of the best-selling smart devices around – the original Note has around 10 million sales to date, while the outgoing Note II has reached 30 million.

There numbers come from general manager of Samsung Taiwan's mobile communication team Andy Tu. This sounds about right as JK Shin himself (Samsung Mobile's chief) said that the Galaxy Note line has sold over 38 million a couple of weeks ago.
The Galaxy Note II has come a long way since it sold 3 million units a month after launch and reached 5 million units sold another month later. The pace is accelerating, however, as the original Note took until March 2012 to hit the 2 million mark and it launched in October 2011.

This doesn’t necessarily mean that the new Galaxy Note 3 will see a similar jump in sales but we're waiting for the quarterly report from Samsung to see if the phablet will be mentioned alongside the Galaxy S4 as one of the hottest sellers (the S4 passed 20 million as early as July). Korean site ET News claims the Note 3 isn't doing too hot in its home market, in part due to a government crackdown on subsidies.

Microsoft Surface 2, Surface Pro 2 tablets now

Microsoft started accepting pre-orders for its latest tablets – the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2. Both models are now available from the company's online store, expected to ship on or around October 22.
Price-wise, all is as expected. The Windows 8.1 RT powered Microsoft Surface 2 with 32GB of storage is priced at $449, while the 64GB model costs $100 extra. As for the Windows 8.1 Pro variant, the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 starts at $899. That gets you 64GB of SSD storage and 4GB of RAM, but there's an option to get a 128GB SSD instead for an additional $100.
Currently, the top Surface Pro 2 model – the one with a 512GB SSD and 8GB of RAM – isn't available. Those who are interested in it and don't mind its $1799 price tag have the option to sign up for an email alert when the tablet is ready to be pre-ordered.

IPhone 5s chipset detailed, 1.3GHz CPU

Thanks to the guys over Chipworks and their detailed inspection of the board of the iPhone 5s, we now know the full specifications of the chipset of Apple's latest flagship.
As you probably know since day one, the new iPhone 5s runs on a new Apple A7 SoC that utilizes a 64-bit processor. This new CPU turns out to be a dual-core unit clocked at 1.3GHz and uses the latest ARM v8 64-bit cores. Apple's new cores are called Cyclone and the whole SoC is manufactured by Samsung on its 28nm High-K Metal Gate (HKMG) process. The GPU in charge is the quad-core PowerVR (Series 6) G6430, which supports OpenGL 3.0, DirectX 10 and OpenCL 1.x. It's currently among the best of the market and eats benchmarks for breakfast.
Apple kept the RAM amount the same - 1GB, though the RAM used in the iPhone 5s is of the newer LPDDR3 variety, compared to the LPDDR2 embedded in the iPhone 5 and 5c.
Finally, the modem chips are made by Qualcomm. If you want to know more about their model numbers and other embedded controllers just head over to the source link below.
So, as expected, Apple is currently using the latest pieces of available technology for its flagship. There are no other smartphones that utilize the new ARM v8 cores (Cortex A53 and Cortex A57 are yet to come) yet and the new Series 6 of Imagination's PowerVR GPU's is making its official debut, too.

LG unveils Vu 3 with 4:3 screen

LG had a phablet before the Optimus G Pro, the LG Optimus Vu, and two generations of it, at that. Now the company has put out its third iteration, and following its new naming convention it's just LG Vu 3 (no "Optimus"). The LG Vu 3 drops the squarish looks of the first two iterations and goes for a more rounded look that is similar to the Optimus G Pro (but not the LG G2 - there are hardware buttons below the screen). The Vu family has always had 4:3 screens and this one is no exception.

This time around it's got a 5.2" IPS LCD screen of 1,280 x 960 resoluiton which results in 307ppi pixel density. LG claims this aspect is better for reading text (both documents and web pages). Like previous Vu's, this one works with a stylus with a rubber tip, and there's no additional digitizer for it.

Despite the lower screen resolution, the LG Vu 3 uses the same chipset as the G2 – a powerful Snapdragon 800 with four Krait 400 CPU cores and Adreno 330 GPU.

It has a 13MP camera too, though the press release makes no mention of optical image stabilization. The LG Vu 3 still borrows a few things from its G2 counterpart, including LTE-Advanced (up to 150Mbps downlink), KnockOn (wake device by double-tapping the screen), Guest mode and QLink (send notifications between the device and a tablet).

The LG Vu 3 also works with QuickView covers, but unlike the covers for the LG G2 there's no window. Instead the whole cover is translucent and the screen contents shines through.

The squarish phablet will be released in Q4 (if we're reading the Google Translated press release right), but there are no details regarding availability.

Apple sells 9 million iPhone 5s and 5c units

Apple prides itself on its opening weekend sales each year and there's always that word record somewhere to be found. This year Apple boasts 9 million sold iPhone 5s and iPhone 5c units in the first weekend.

Apple didn't provide specifics on which iPhone sold how many, but the two new iPhones combined for a significantly larger win over last year's 5 million iPhone 5 units opening weekend. Also iOS 7 is now running on more than 200 million devices, making it one of the fastest updates in history. The updated OS launched just two days before the new iPhones.

Apple is reporting low supply for the new iPhone 5s flagship, with many online orders expecting to be shipped in the coming weeks.

Be sure to check back with us soon for a detailed look at the iPhone 5s and 5c.

New iOS 7 vulnerability lets you bypass lockscreen

The latest version of Apple's mobile operating system, iOS 7, is already avaiable to iPhone and iPad users and we now hear of the first (fairly significant) userland exploit. This one lets people bypass the phone's passcode lockscreen via the phone's new control center feature.

Many users have since confirmed the bug. To make use of the exploit, you swipe up from the lockscreen to access the new control center and open the alarm clock. You hold the power/lock button for while, which brings up the option to power it off. You cancel that but at this point you can double-tap the home button and open up the phone's multitasking screen, which gives you access to the camera and stored photos, as well any logged-in email and social networking accounts.
The trick requires a very specific double-tap on the home button, namely a short press followed by a long press.
An Apple spokesperson has since confirmed that the company is aware of the issue, and plans on fixing it by means of a software update.
This follows another reported leak which involves disabling the "Find my iPhone" feature, even if the device is locked. Potential thieves can disable the location feature by enabling airplane mode via the Siri virtual assistant - accessible even through the lockscreen.
While you're waiting for a hotfix from Apple, you can eliminate the vulnerability by disabling access to the control center from your lockscreen via the settings menu.

Official photo of the Nokia Asha 500 leaks

The first official photo of the Nokia Asha 500 has just surfaced courtesy of evleaks. The leak doesn't provide more information of the upcoming Asha 500 other than the photo itself, so no specifications are available at this point.
The phone is obviously merely a Dual SIM version of the Nokia Asha 501. We notice however some changes, which Nokia has made in the design department of the phone. The form factor seems to be left intact, but as the photo shows, there's an interesting translucent effect around the outer edges of the Asha 500. This might very well be a case, but it certainly looks cool in the photo.
Another apparent change is the Asha 500's capacitive button, which replaces the physical one in the old Asha 501. The leaked photo also confirms the Asha 500 is going to be available in a dual SIM variant as well.
Again, no more information about the hardware or software is available now. Nokia is holding a press event on October 22 and the Asha 500 might as well be unveiled then in addition to the highly anticipated Lumia 1520.

Sony Xperia Z1 (Honami) benchmark

BUY SONY XPERIA NOW

Well, well, well, look who's here! The Sony Xperia Z1 itself has arrived, and if it had the faintest idea what we were going to do with it, it'd have probably stayed at home... But, being the self-confident smartphone that it is (and we can't blame it - the phone is a powerhouse!), it has fallen right into our geeky hands, so we've seized the opportunity and put Sony's new Android flagship through its paces.

Curious about the Xperia Z1's performance when it comes to synthetic benchmarks? Sure, we've already posted some benchmarks results with this phone, but back then, the Z1 we used to execute the tests was running non-final software, so now we're kind of overwriting those numbers with the new ones. Hit the 'Play' button above to see how the retail Xperia Z1 is toasting them Quadrant, AnTuTu, GFXBench and Vellamo benchmarks!.

Nokia Lumia 1520 phablet to be unveiled 3rd week

Those who were expecting Nokia's first phablet, the Lumia 1520, to be unveiled about a month from now, seem to be in for disappointment. Due to the Microsoft buyout offer, Nokia is restructuring some scheduled announcements, it seems, and has moved the Lumia 1520 unveiling to the end of next month.
Particularly, sources have learned that the top-shelf 6" Windows Phone 8 phablet will be uncovered in the week of October 21st, which is quite a bit of time from now. This would likely mean November release date for the Lumia 1520, and the event is rumored to be held in a place other than New York where the Lumia 1020 was announced earlier in the year. Given that the phone is expected to make a cameo on AT&T, we wouldn't be surprised if there are parallel launch events, though.

Purple Galaxy Mega 6.3 now official from Samsung

Back in June there were hints that the two large-screened Samsung devices, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Galaxy Mega 5.8, would come in a new color scheme: Plum Purple.
Today Samsung has come through on one of those predictions, as a purple-colored Galaxy Mega 6.3 has been spotted on Samsung's Hong Kong portal. Odds are that wider availability to other markets will follow suit.
No word on whether the younger sibling in the Mega lineup, the Mega 5.8, will also have a purple-colored variant as was hinted at initially. There's no trace of the device on the Hong Kong site.
The Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 sports a 6.3-inch display of 720p resolution alongside a dual-core 1.7 GHz Krait processor, 8/16 GB of internal storage, and 1.5 GB of RAM. You can find out all you need to know about the Mega 6.3 in our full review, as well as our hands-on for the AT&T version in the US.

HTC One Max info leaks in China: $800 price tag

The HTC One is getting a Max variant to add some phablet flavor to the One portfolio and it seems that someone in China jumped the gun and published the core specs. There's also a new batch of photos of the device. The specs image advertises a 5.9" 1080p screen, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, a 1.7GHz processor (likely a Snapdragon 600 judging by the frequency), 2GB RAM, 16GB storage and a 3,300mAh battery.
he main camera of the One Max is a 4MP UltraPixel camera but it's not clear if it will have optical stabilization or not (so far only the One has it, the One mini and Butterfly S don't) and a 2.1MP front-facing camera. The back camera is accompanied by an LED flash and what is reportedly a fingerprint scanner.  The leaked HTC One Max 4G LTE comes along with dual-SIM connectivity, but this is most likely the Chinese version of the phone (which the image calls HTC 8088). The HTC One also has a dual-SIM version for China with a removable back and a microSD card slot. So the international One Max version will likely be single-SIM, it will drop the microSD card and pack more storage.
The pricing for the HTC 8088 / One Max will be set at around $800, according to the rumors, and the device is slated for an October launch.

Sony Xperia Z Ultra arrives a day earlier in UK

The Sony Xperia Z Ultra screen measures 6.4-inches in diagonal, which makes it borderline tablet, if you ask us, but below 7 inches, it still technically qualifies as a phablet.
Categorization aside, our UK readers will be glad to know, that online store Clove has just announced they already have both the white and black version of the Xperia Z Ultra in stock after having fulfilled all their pre-orders.
The handset retails for £612, bundled with the Sony SBH20 stereo Bluetooth headset and for a limited time only, a free Sony SmartWatch 2.
Last time we heard, the phablet was supposed to launch on September 13 in the UK, so it seems it's a day early.
We also managed to find a Vodafone deal for the Xperia Z Ultra through Phones4U, which offers the phone bundled with a Sony dock and a case.
O2 also has it in stock now, either directly or via CarphoneWarehouse. It's available for £599.99 commitment-free.
We recently reviewed the Sony Xperia Z Ultra and we found it to be an excellent piece of kit, save for the below average loudspeaker performance and the lack of a camera flash. Other than that, it's got a razor-thin 6.5mm profile, an impressive screen (much better quality than the one on the Xperia Z), great talk times, a nice camera, an awesome preforming 2.2Ghz Snapdragon 800 chipset with 2 gigs of RAM and a solid audio output quality. And of course, its IP58 certification means it's one of the few portable devices to be truly water tight - good even for swimming.
Disclaimer: We are not affiliated with any of these stores and we do not endorse purchasing through any of them. We are merely researching the most popular options and these are not necessarily the best deals available. By all means, shop around before you commit to buying your Sony Xperia Z Ultra.

Dual-SIM Nokia Lumia 720 allegedly in development

BUY NOW
The famous tipster evleaks says there is a chance Nokia is working on a dual-SIM Lumia 720. Unfortunately that's all we get at this point.

Dual-SIM Lumia 720 may be on the way.

If this turns out to be indeed the truth, then this will be the first dual-SIM Windows Phone ever released.

The rest of the specs include a 4.3" IPS Clear Black WVGA display, a 6.1MP Carl Zeiss camera with 720p video recording, 512MB RAM, optional wireless charging support, and various connectivity options sans LTE.
Currently the Lumia 720 costs about €250 and but the dual-SIM model availability and pricing is yet to be confirmed.

Apple iPhone 5s to cost more than its predecessor in Europe

Apple finally announced its next-generation iPhone along with the iPhone 5c at yesterday's event. Back at the event, the Cupertino guys announced the subsidized pricing of its newest smartphones in the United States, but didn't say anything about unlocked pricing for other regions.
Well, the pricing details of the iPhone 5s for the European market are no longer a mystery, as the prices have appeared in the official Apple stores around the old continent. The 16GB model of the iPhone 5s will be up for grabs for £549, while the 32GB variant costs you £629 and the 64GB version is priced at £709. Surprisingly, the iPhone 5s costs more than its predecessor, - upping each step by £20. That's the second year in a row that Apple has upped the entry fee for the iPhone game, after the iPhone 5 launch price was £30 higher than the iPhone 4S before it.

The pricing of the iPhone has been increased for the rest of the Europe as well. The iPhone 5s will now cost €699 for the 16GB variant, while the iPhone 5 was up for grabs at a price point of €679.
Of course, the newest iPhone will be available for a much cheaper price with a carrier contract, but the details for those are yet to be announced.
The iPhone 5s along with iPhone 5c will be available in UK, France and Germany from September 20 with the rest of Europe to follow until the end of the year.
In case you missed yesterday's Apple event, you can check out our complete coverage here
